STOP Diabetes and Heart Disease with This Spring Duo
Spring is here!
And with it comes the reemergence of daffodils… the return to the farmers market… and the tending of your own garden.
Now, there’s even more to celebrate about this delightful season. Â
Because new research shows that two of spring’s all-start veggies can help you STOP diabetes and heart disease in their tracks!
Even better? They’re both delicious… and in season NOW!Â
Green beans and onions are two of my favorite vegetables.
And when they’re fresh – like they are this time of year – they make the perfect addition to any meal.
But their delicious taste is just the beginning….
In a study, researchers assigned 260 diabetic patients to one of three groups. One ate a low-fat diet, one ate a low-fat diet plus 20g of fresh onions three times a day, and the last one ate a low-fat diet plus 20g of green beans three times a day for one week.
At the end, the results showed that the onion group significantly lowered their blood.
And the news gets even better for the green bean group. They saw:
- A 33 percent reduction in blood sugar,
- A 7 percent reduction in cholesterol,
- And an 8 percent reduction in triglycerides.
And the low-fat diet? They didn’t see results like these!
This means that adding 20gm – about a ¼ cup serving – of green beans to your daily diet can help you beat back diabetes… and heart disease!
Even better? Add some onions to your beans, and you may be able to sink your blood sugar even lower!
Onions and green beans are either in season – or will be soon – and available at a farmers’ market near you.
So, get out and pick some up!
I like to sauté green beans in extra virgin olive oil, minced red onion, and a dash of sea salt.
This recipe is a winning combo for the dinner table… and your health!
