Is Your Pet RUINING Your Sleep?
Few things in life are as great as a cuddle with your best furry friend.
Spending time with your dog or cat can lower your stress… provide companionship… and even improve feelings of anxiety and depression.
But there’s one way your pet could be putting your health in trouble.
New research shows that sharing a life with Fido or Whiskers can RUIN the quality of your sleep and even put you on the fast track to a sleep disorder!
Here are all the details…
For the study, researchers from Lincoln Memorial examined the sleep patterns of nearly 5,500 people with a cat or dog.
At the end, they found that having either pet can have negative impacts on your health.
Folks with cats were more likely to experience the following:
- Snoring,
- Trouble sleeping,
- Difficulty falling asleep,
- Not getting enough sleep,
- And having leg jerks.
Those with dogs were more likely to experience the following:
- Trouble sleeping,
- Sleep disorders,
- Sleep apnea,
- Feeling unrested,
- Feeling sleepy,
- Inadequate sleep,
- Needing pills to sleep,
- And having leg jerks.
WOWZA! That’s a lot of sleep issues!
The researchers believe that the negative impacts of pet ownership on sleep are due to differing sleep schedules and the disruptions from your pet’s nocturnal activities.
But there’s also some good news…
A closer look at the research also revealed that having a dog or cat can benefit the physical and emotional health of owners who feel bonded to their pets.
In other words, don’t kick your little buddy out.
Instead, get them their own space to sleep in.
Sharing a sleeping space with a pet can create more disruptions during the night.
If your pet is currently spending the night in your bed, consider getting them a bed on the floor.
Or if your pet is in your room but disturbs your sleep with snoring or overnight activity, it may be time to get them a cozy sleep space in another part of your house.
