RECALL ALERT: COVID-19 Test May Contain Deadly Bacteria
Just today, the government finally called an end to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.
If you’ve purchased at-home COVID-19 tests from CVS or Amazon, your health may be in jeopardy.
The FDA has issued a recalled certain lots of SD Biosensor Pilot COVID-19 At-Home Tests. The tests were distributed by Roches Diagnostics, with approximately 500,000 going to CVS and 16,000 going to Amazon.
The tests are being pulled due to concerns over bacterial contamination of the testing solution, which can lead to incorrect results and bacterial infections.
In fact, according to the release, the test kits are found to be contaminated with the following bacteria:
- Enterococcus,
- Enterobacter,
- Klebsiella,
- And Serratia species.
Now, all of these bacteria can cause infections.
But Klebsiella is the one that I would never want to tangle with.
Certain strains of this bacteria can cause pneumonia and serious blood and urinary tract infections that are drug-resistant, rendering most antibiotics useless and putting you on track for the fight of your life.
You see, one study found that 42% of folks with drug-resistant Klebsiella infections die from the illness.
YIKES!
The whole point of taking a COVID-19 test is to AVOID deadly infections, not get closer to them!
So, if you have any SD Biosensor Pilot COVID-19 At-Home Tests from the recall lots, now is the time to GET RID OF THEM. (Find the lot numbers here.)
Be sure to throw the entire kit out, and do not pour the solution out separately. If you do make contact with the testing solution, wash your skin or eyes thoroughly.
Seek medical attention if you’ve used a recalled test and have any symptoms of infection, such as fever, discharge, and eye issues.
Additionally, if you’ve used a recalled test in the last two weeks, have yourself retested for COVID-19, as your results may be inaccurate.
