The Summertime Danger RUINING Your VisionĀ
Itās a hot one out there.
Cities like New Orleans, Miami, and even St. Paul, Minnesota, broke heat records just last month.
But no matter where you live, you need to take high temperatures seriously.
These scorching conditions can cause dehydration, heat stroke, and even heart issues.
Now, thereās something else to worry about when things heat up⦠your vision.
Hereās everything you need to know to keep your eagle eyes all summer long⦠and beyond.
For the new study, researchers from the University of Toronto analyzed the vision health data and the regional temperature averages of more than 1.7 million American seniors.Ā
And what they found was mind-blowingā¦
Folks living in higher temperatures were at increased risk for vision issues!
Specifically, people 65 and older living in counties with temperatures above 60 F were 44 percent more likely to have severe vision problems than their counterparts living in counties with temperatures below 50 F.
Now, you may be wondering what temperature has to do with vision⦠and I donāt blame you. The two donāt seem to have much in common.
But researchers from the study believe there could be a link.
You see, higher temps can increase your exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, air pollution, infections, and the destruction of folic acid ā all key factors in vision health.
Luckily, there are ways to shield your eyes from the dangers of heat.
First, stay cool when you can. Doing outdoor activities first thing in the morning or after sundown can help you beat the heat.
Second, always wear your sunglasses. Doing this can help you protect your eyes from damaging ultraviolet rays.
And lastly, get more folic acid in your diet. Eating things like dark leafy greens, beans, peanuts, and fresh fruits can boost your levels and help shield the nerves in your eyes from the type of damage caused by again and sun exposure.Ā
You can get UV-blocking sunglasses and folic acid supplements at your local pharmacy.
