REVEALED: The New COVID-19 Threat Lurking in Your Backyard

Just when you think you’ve seen it all with COVID-19, something new sends your sense of safety into a tailspin.

Think about… in the last four years, we’ve really seen it all…

Lockdowns…

Supply shortages…

And more variants than you can count on two hands…

Now, research shows there’s a new COVID-19 threat on the horizon.

Even worse? It could be lurking in your own backyard!

Here’s how to stay safe.

There’s no doubt that deer are cute. And this time of year, they are entertaining to watch as the fawns learn to run and jump.

But a new study shows that getting too friendly with Bambi could put your health at risk.

For the research published in Nature Communications, scientists COVID-19 tested more than 12,000 wild white-tailed deer from 26 states between November 2021 and April 2022, looking for a link between human contact and COVID-19 infection in deer populations.

And man, oh man, did they find one!

The results showed that:

  • Humans transmitted the virus to deer more than 100 times,
  • Deer were exposed to all the major variants, including Alpha, Gamma, Delta, and Omicron,
  • And that at least three people have caught COVID-19 from deer.

YIKES!

Researchers also report that their research shows that COVID-19 was transmitted from humans to deer, then mutated, and potentially transmitted back to humans.

It’s believed that deer populations can act as hosts to the virus, where it can survive and mutate.

So, how did this happen?

Deer are frequently in contact with human environments, including trash and wastewater – two potential carriers of the virus.

And vice versa. We humans often come in contact with items that deer have touched, such as outdoor furniture and garbage cans.

While the study shows that the transmission from deer to human is rare, it’s still your best bet to take some precautions.

Be sure to wash your hands anytime you touch outdoor items that could have made contact with deer. And wipe down any trashcans or other yard items with antiviral wipes before moving them.

And enjoy watching the deer from a window or patio that is a safe distance from the animals.
